Nike may still be catching heat for dragging its feet on a Caitlin Clark signature shoe, but even the harshest critics had to admit: Sunday’s game against the Dallas Wings came with a very sweet surprise.
In a 102–83 rout that showcased Clark at her most electrifying, eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice something unusual on her feet — a never-before-seen pair of Nike Kobe 6s in a wild new “Cookie Monster” colorway. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
Fuzzy blue uppers, cookie-colored tongues, and laces that looked like they were lifted from Sesame Street’s most snack-obsessed resident — Clark was serving points and looks. While she’s had a number of Player Exclusive (PE) shoes before, this one instantly grabbed attention both on and off the court.
Sports Illustrated confirmed the shoe’s unofficial nickname and noted that Nike has yet to reveal whether the Cookie Monster edition will ever be made available to the public. No word either on whether Caitlin’s childhood involved binge-watching PBS, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she had a soft spot for the letter “C” — and not just for Clark.
Though the inspiration remains unclear, the execution was unmistakable: bold, playful, and unapologetically fun. It’s the kind of shoe that makes a statement without saying a word — just like Clark herself.
As sneakerheads speculate whether a Big Bird or Oscar the Grouch version might follow, one thing’s for sure: Nike knows how to stir the hype — even if they’re still dragging their feet on giving Clark the signature sneaker she clearly deserves.
And with performances like Sunday’s, maybe it’s time Nike stops teasing and starts baking… a full batch of signature greatness.
