BREAKING: Brian Wilson, Founding Member of The Beach Boys, Dies at 82

Brian Wilson, the musical genius and founding member of The Beach Boys, has passed away at the age of 82, his family confirmed Thursday morning.

With a legacy spanning over six decades, Wilson was hailed as one of the most innovative composers and producers of the 20th century. From the sun-soaked anthems of California youth to the groundbreaking emotional depths of Pet Sounds, his work helped define American pop music and inspired generations of artists.

In a statement released today, Wilson’s family wrote:

“With deep sadness, we announce that our beloved Brian has passed. He was a brilliant mind, a kind soul, and a man who brought harmony to the world—both musically and spiritually.”

Born in 1942, Wilson grew up in Hawthorne, California, and by the age of 19, he had already begun reshaping the sound of modern music. Together with his brothers Carl and Dennis, cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine, Wilson co-founded The Beach Boys in 1961. The group’s early hits like Surfin’ U.S.A., Fun, Fun, Fun, and I Get Around quickly made them America’s band.

But Wilson’s genius truly shone in the studio. His 1966 magnum opus Pet Sounds and the iconic single Good Vibrations showcased a level of complexity and emotional depth rarely seen in pop music. Fellow musicians, including The Beatles, credited Wilson’s work as revolutionary.

Behind the scenes, however, Wilson struggled with mental health issues throughout much of his life. His battle with depression, anxiety, and auditory hallucinations forced him to retreat from the public eye for many years. Still, his influence never waned.

In later decades, Wilson experienced a heartfelt resurgence. He returned to touring, released solo albums, and in 2004, finally completed and released SMiLE, the legendary “lost album” that had haunted him for decades.

Tributes are pouring in from across the world. Paul McCartney called Wilson “a true genius of our time.” Brian’s influence, he said, “will echo for as long as music is made.”

Wilson died peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. The family has asked for privacy as they mourn.

Brian Wilson’s harmonies, his vulnerability, and his fearless creativity shaped not just a sound, but a feeling—a piece of the human soul translated into melody.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren.

1942 – 2025
Rest in peace, Brian. Your music will never fade.
