Initially, the proposed sentence for the female singer was 8 years in prison and a fine of 26 million USD. However, after settlement, Shakira only needed to pay a smaller fine of $7.6 million.

In 2022, Shakira repeatedly asserted her innocence and refused to plead guilty. However, during this trial, the Hips Don’t Lie singer agreed to a settlement to resolve everything.

Speaking about the decision, Shakira explained: “While I am determined to defend my innocence and my lawyers believe that the verdict will be in my favor, I have made the decision to resolve the matter.” “This is the best and most beneficial way for my children.
