The Kansas City Chiefs wanted to make sure they kept Patrick Mahomes as long as possible.
Now they have it with them until 2031.

The 24-year-old’s contract covered the next two seasons.

Mahomes agreed to a 10-year contract extension worth $503 million according to his agency, Steinberg Sports.
The contract has a value of 477 million in guarantee mechanisms; there is a no-exchange clause as well as an exit clause, if the guarantee mechanisms are not reached.
This is the richest contract in sports history, surpassing Mike Trout’s $426.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Chiefs had already validated the fifth year option on his pact. Mahomes was scheduled to make $825,000 in the final year of his rookie contract this season.
General manager Brett Veach said this deal has been a priority for some time.

Mahomes threw touchdown passes on back-to-back final-quarter drives at the Super Bowl, leading the Chiefs to their first title in 50 years, the first for coach Andy Reid. This performance earned Mahomes the title of Most Valuable Player of the big game.
